Obituary of Katherine H. Hoover

Katherine H. "Kay" Hoover, 97, of 4911 Baker St. Ext., Ashville, NY, passed away at 7:04 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born February 20, 1919 in Columbus Junction, Iowa the daughter of the late Serias and Elsie Louise Gabriel Hanft. Kay was a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College where she received her degree in Education. Before her retirement she was an elementary school teacher for the Wayland-Cohocton School District for 18 years. During World War II she was a "Rosie the Riveter" at the airplane manufacturing company in Buffalo, NY. Kay served as a missionary to many countries where she served on the medical and dental team. She also assisted her husband in ministering to many patients. Her missionary work took her to Russia, Croatia, Ukraine, China, Brazil and Peru. She was an active member of the Lakewood Baptist Church, and in previous years was a member of the Wallace- Wesleyan Church in Wallace, NY. She was also a member of the Panama Senior Citizens, the Gideon's International, Wayland-Cohocton Retired Teachers Association, the New York State Retired Teachers Association and was an associate member of the Good Samaritan Village Church in Kissimmee, FL. Surviving are her three children, Bethany (Rev. David) Trosper of Bemus Point, NY, Mary Kay (Rev. Daniel) Cook of Ashville, NY, Steven (Beth) Hoover of Bryant Pond, ME, seven grandchildren, Miranda (Michael) Swanson of Bemus Point, NY, Angelica Stout of Olmsted Falls, OH, Christina (Daniel) Lewis of Lakewood, NY, Timothy (Sarah) Cook of Ashville, NY, Carolyn (Christopher) Clark of Canandaigua, NY, Lisa (Dr. Christopher) Battista of Kettering, OH, Mary Beth (Thomas) Ray of South Paris, ME and 15 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Gerald D. Hoover whom she married December 22, 1943 and who died October 28, 1993 and seven brothers and sisters. The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lakewood Baptist Church. Her son in law, Rev. Daniel Cook, retired pastor of Lakewood Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mapleview Cemetery, Cohocton, NY. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the church.
