Obituary of Christine J. Leitch

Christine J. Leitch, 72, of North Main St. Ext., passed away at 5:15 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital. She was the wife of David R. Leitch, whom she married January 18, 1970. A lifelong area resident, she was born in Jamestown February 19, 1946, a daughter of the late Clarence and Evangeline Leave Beal. Christine graduated from Jamestown High School in 1964 and from Westminster College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education. She also completed course work for a teaching certificate at Ohio University and SUNY Fredonia. Chris taught music in Sherman for a couple years and worked as a part time reading teacher in Randolph for couple years as well. Christine and her husband, David, worked with her father, Clarence, in the Beal Landscape Service and together became owners following his death in 1981. They have both loved and enjoyed the landscape business as equal partners. Christine was active in the Jamestown Choral Society and the Community Music Project for a number of years. As longtime members of the Jamestown Audubon Society, she and her husband manned the soup kettle at Thanksgiving With The Birds for 31 years. Chris loved music, reading and the natural world. She also enjoyed following politics and current events closely and understood that we can't destroy Mother Earth without destroying ourselves. In addition to her husband of 47 years, David R. Leitch, surviving are two sisters, Rosemary Stimson of Williamsburg VA and Priscilla (Demetrios) Papas of Tarpon Springs FL. A memorial service will be held in July on a date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Jamestown Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Rd., the Jamestown Concert Assoc., 315 N. Main St. Suite 200, or the Chautauqua Chamber Singers through the Community Music Project, 715 Falconer St., all Jamestown, NY 14701.
