Obituary of James M. Coons

James M. Coons, 84, formerly of 340 Delaware Avenue, died Monday June 18, 2018, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A Jamestown resident since 1957, he was born May 13, 1934, in Gallitzin, PA, a son of the late John William and Margaret Jane McNeil Coons. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1953-57. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Jamestown Electro Plating as a millwright from 1957-89. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a former member of Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed time spent on his CB radio. Surviving are two sons James D. Coons of Jamestown and Donald K. (Mary) Coons of Greer, SC and three grandchildren Kaitlyn, Jacob and Emily Coons. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Shirley Myers Coons, whom he married October 19, 1957 and who died April 25, 2012; a brother John W. Coons, Jr. and three sisters Alice M. Smith, Mary Meehan and Margaret "Jane" Vinglish. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
