Obituary of Betty J. Sweet

Betty J. Edwards Sweet, 84, of Jamestown passed away Sunday July 1, 2018 in her home. She was born August 15, 1933 in Corry, PA the daughter of the late Fred M. and Virginia A. Stuffelbeam Peterson. Betty was a 1951 graduate of Clymer Central School. In early years she was employed by Sherman Brothers Furniture and retired from Jamestown Royal after more than 40 years. Betty loved having and going to garage sales, crocheting, and was an avid reader. Surviving are two daughters: Roxinne (Carl) Cason of Kansas City, MO; Merla Martin of Sherman, NY; three sons: Jeff Edwards of Bemus Point, Robert Sweet and Glen Sweet both of Jamestown; three granddaughters: Courtney Edwards and Stephanie Thompson both of Jamestown; Jennifer Cason of Kansas City, MO; five great grandchildren; two sisters: Dixie Arters of Jamestown, Freda Farnsworth of Ashville; a brother: Frederick "Skeeter" Peterson of Ashville; a half brother Darren Peterson and half sister Wanda Peterson both of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Merle E. Sweet who died in 2014; her first husband Charles Edwards; two brothers: Rexford W. Peterson and Thomas "Mike" Peterson; and her son in law, Gary Martin. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Phelps, Hospice Chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in the Cutting Cemetery, Clymer, NY. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
