Obituary of Richard J. Battaglia

Richard J. Battaglia, 72, of Jamestown, died Monday July 30, 2018 in UPMC Chautauqua. A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born June 9, 1946, the son of the late Joseph and Gloria Pollino Battaglia. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Jamestown Community College. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He began a career in law enforcement in 1972 with the Jamestown Police Department and retired from there in 1991 as a detective. He was a member of the Kendall Club, Western Area Retired Police Association and Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association. He was an avid fan of baseball always rooting for the New York Yankees. His favorite player was Babe Ruth. Rich was known for his extensive knowledge of baseball trivia. He also enjoyed playing golf. Surviving are two children Joseph (Michelle) Battaglia and Kimberly (Jamie) Miraglia both of Jamestown; two grandchildren Amanda and Nicholas Miraglia; a sister Gloria Piazza of Jamestown and his companion Diane Ecker. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Daniel Tyler will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
