Obituary of Arthur A. Wellman

Honorable Arthur A. Wellman, ASID, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, June 22, 2019. Art was born in Jamestown July 7, 1931 to the late Albert and Leona Wellman. Art is survived by his brother, Barclay; and by his four children: Cesca, Arthur, Meredith and Austin; as well as his grandchildren: Liam, Mary, Greyson and Parker. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1955, and thereafter served in the U.S. Army. He sat justice for the Town of Harmony, and was a volunteer for the Panama Fire department. Art devoted his life to bringing joy and beauty to others, personally and professionally, through art, music, and design. Artie Babe loved socializing and clubs; he was the life of any party and lifted the spirits of his family and community. He will be greatly missed, but his joy and wonderful laugh live on. He is forever in our hearts, and when we are down, we will try to remember his infectious enthusiasm, great spirits, and to JUMP UP like the immortal William from Coconut Grove. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29, in Jamestown's First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert J. Hagel officiating. The family will greet friends in fellowship hall of the church following the service Saturday. In lieu of gifts or flowers, Art requested that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
