Obituary of Richard W. Sandquist

Richard W. Sandquist, 91, of Lakewood, died Wednesday August 14, 2019, in his home. An area resident all of his life, he was born August 29, 1927, in Jamestown, a son of the late Richard Sandquist and Doris Brown Sandquist Warner. He was a 1945 graduate of Jamestown High School and later completed training at Progressive School of Photography, New Haven, CT. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the medical corps from 1945-46. He was employed by Watson Manufacturing Company in sales for 30 years. In addition, he owned and operated Sandquist Photography for 46 years. He later worked for Consolidated Delivery, Williamsville. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Lakewood and the Vikings. He was a life member of both the Professional Photographers of America and Southwestern NY Professional Photographers Association. Surviving are two children David (Shelley) Sandquist of Falconer and Lucinda (Sal Armeli) Taylor of Busti; four grandchildren Matthew Sandquist of Falconer, Krista (Darrell Sager) Sandquist of Jamestown, Michael (Lindsey Carlson) Sandquist of Jamestown and Rachel Armeli of North East, PA and great grandchild Nandi Pedro of North East, PA. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Ann Gordon Sandquist, whom he married May 5, 1951 and who died December 15, 2004; a brother Robert Sandquist; a sister JoAnn Forsberg and his stepfather David Warner. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Rev. Timothy Hoyer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
