Obituary of Richard H. Andrews

Richard H. Andrews, 93, of Sumter, SC formerly of Jamestown, NY passed away on November 18, 2019 at his home. He was born on September 18, 1926, son of the late Clarence and Doris Andrews. He attended Lakewood High School prior to serving in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Helen Peterson Andrews and his brother, Gary Andrews. Surviving is a sister, Peggie Dalton of Florida. Richard's family includes three children: Linda Morse of Sumter, SC, Teresa Wise of The Villages, Florida, and Rod and Cathy Andrews of Ashville, NY. His three grandchildren include Edward Carmen of Sumter, SC, Christy Wise of Land O' Lakes, Florida, and Kendra and Ron Bellas of Oveido, Florida. Richard also has four great-grandchildren: Braden Carmen, Joshua Carmen, Drew Bellas and Landon Bellas. Richard was formerly employed by Chautauqua County Highway Department. He was an active member of Lakewood Methodist Church, Pinewood Baptist Church in Sumter, SC, the Busti Historical Society, Celoron Legion, and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Richard loved life and he was most proud of his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather as he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid car buff and also enjoyed football, gardening, outdoor activities, boating, fishing, and hunting. He loved desserts and sweets especially Helen's pies and cooking. Richard was a proud man not only of his family but also of the life he lived. He and Helen were so proud of building their own house that turned into a welcoming home to others. Richard had many friends and always enjoyed sharing a joke or two with whomever he met. He was loved immensely and will be missed beyond measure. The family will receive friends at the Lind Funeral Home on Friday November 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
