Obituary of Stewart Richard Hoyt, Sr.

Stewart Richard Hoyt, Sr., 71, of 6147 Button Valley Road, Panama, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. He was born February 20, 1949 at the family home in Sherman, NY, a son of the late Harold and Edith Davis Hoyt. Stewart was the beloved husband of 54 years of Joan Button Hoyt, whom he married January 20, 1966. He was a dairy farmer for many years who loved to spend time with his kids and grandkids and with whom he enjoyed sharing his love of farming, hunting, fishing, attending rodeos, and riding horses. Stewart always had a cookie ready for his grandkids. In addition to his surviving wife Joan, he was the loving father of Laurie (Malcolm) Short of Panama, Stewart (Mary Ann) Hoyt, Jr. of Columbus, Pa., Edith Ecklund of Panama, Elizabeth (Chris) Haller of Kiantone and Raymond Hoyt of Panama. He was also the loving grandfather of Joshua (Randi Fox) Short, Sarah Short, Jacob (Kristy Durstine) Short, Richard, Mariah, Sofia and Theo Hoyt, Rachel (Curt Schnars) Ecklund, Mark and Derek Ecklund, Aleasha Haller, and Trey and Natalie Hoyt; and great grandfather of Payton Short, Leah and Isaac Chase, Ava and Carter Schnars and Grayson Short. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold (Sonny) Hoyt; two sisters, Lula May Hoyt Ecker Nelson and Helen Ploss; two brothers-in-law, Clifford Ploss and Robert Chapman; a nephew, Eugene Ploss and niece, Bonnie Felt; and an infant granddaughter, Allison Ecklund. The memorial service will be held at 6135 Button Valley Road in Panama on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.
