Obituary of Philip George Schneider

Philip George Schneider, age 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, following a fierce and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Phil will be deeply missed by Jan, his wife and best friend of 58 years. Phil's journey began in Jamestown, the son of the late Ben W. and Jeannette (Anderson) Schneider. He was a graduate of Southwestern Central School. Phil was a devout Christian and family man. He also served in the US Navy. LCDR Schneider was a patriotic serviceman who served 2 tours in Vietnam and by the time he retired from the Navy Reserves had racked 3500 hours of flight time as a Tactical Air Command Officer. He founded his own software engineering company, Jepsan Group, Inc., which provided groundbreaking software programming to several local companies as the digital era began. He developed programming for NASA and his career never ended. In fact, he continued to excel in developing cutting edge artificial intelligence operations as recently as this past spring for Rolls Royce. For fun, Phil was an avid historian who believed one should never stop learning. One of his many talents and joys was mentoring and shaping new engineers. He also loved gardening, swimming, water skiing, boating, reading, bowling, playing cards, and attending the symphony with Jan, and attending church services at Thornapple Covenant Church where Jesus called and deepened his faith. Most of all he loved his family, his children, and his many, many friends. He had a heart of gold. Remembering him so much with love are his children, Eric (Dawn) Schneider, Amy Schneider, Nathan (Gail) Schneider; his grandchildren: Jordan, Charlie, Sam, Sara, Max, and Alexa; his great-grandchild Liam; and his siblings Jeanne (Van) VanOrder, Steve (Barb) Schneider, Jim (Carol) Schneider, and Karen Schneider. A service for family was held at Zaagman Memorial Chapel in Michigan on Saturday, Nov, 21. The family will receive friends from 1- 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28 in the Lind Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in Mrytle Cemetery, Clarks Corners. The Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor of First Covenant Church, will officiate. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn while inside the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306, tunnel2towers.org/donate or Faith Hospice.
