Obituary of Virginia W. Card

Virginia Warner Stone Card passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 in her Celoron home of 68 years. She loved her home with hand painted walls, done by Genoa Samuelson and loved her gardens and goldfish pond. She was born to Kenneth and Ester Keith in Sheridan, NY on August 24, 1924. Virginia is survived by her two daughters: Nancy Stone (Charles) Campbell of Cherry Creek and Fort Myers, FL, and Janice Stone (William) Dietz of Mayopac, NY; a stepdaughter Diane Wirth of Glendale, CA; grandchildren: Cathleen (Edward) VanItallie of Mahwah, NJ and Naples, FL, Craig (Joanne) Campbell of Youngwood, PA, Melissa Dietz of Danbury, Conn, and Billy Dietz in a group home in Germantown, NY. She was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Warner; sisters Dorothy Wion and Betty Adams; stepmother Emily Warner; stepsister Mary Ellen Windolft; and stepsons Don Card and Stanley Card. In earlier years she worked for AVM for ten years. Widowed at 54, she solved loneliness by taking in children for several wonderful families. She belonged to the Celoron Moose where she enjoyed their Friday night fish frys and belonged to Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, enjoying their good dinners also. She was an excellent seamstress, gardener, and canned all foods. She had a close relationship with Sterling and Carol Wynham, Mary Buck, and nieces Anna Mae Crossley, Mary Ann Crissman, and Sharyn Nelson. It is a sad relief that she is no longer with us. Her celebration of life was held at her 95th birthday party with family and old friends from all walks of her life. She will be laid to rest beside her second husband, Allen Card in Sunset Hill Cemetery. A private service will be held at the gravesite. Arrangements are by the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 West Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750. Cards may be sent to Box 216, Celoron, NY 14720.
