Obituary of Larry R. Larson

Larry R. Larson of Lander, PA died at home on Feb. 4, 2022. He was born on April 14, 1937, in Jamestown, NY to Eric G. and Anna E. (Pelander) Larson. He graduated in the first graduating class of Eisenhower High School. Upon graduation, Mr. Larson enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a proud Vietnam-era veteran serving as an MP in the K9 Corps. Mr. Larson worked in various jobs at MRC Bearings, National Transit Co., and surveyed parts of the Kinzua Dam project. For most of his career he worked in Operations at United Refining Company. Larry was a founding member of the RSVP Toy Shoppe and recruited many of the volunteers who work there today. He was a literacy volunteer, a driver for Disabled Veterans of America, a Pine Grove Lion, a Boy Scout leader, and a member of Kiantone Congregational Church. Mr. Larson always had a smile on his face and stories to tell. He loved to play lottery tickets, go to casinos and travel. He operated a tree farm, was famous for making dandelion wine and finding arrowheads, loved puns, and frequently contributed to the Warren Times Observer's Reader Speaks editorials. On August 5, 1961, he married Terrie Lee Marquis, who survives him. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2021. He is survived by his four children: Brenda (Bill) Jones of Denton, TX, Rodney (Lara) Larson of Russell, PA, Sally (Jon) Lord of Warren, PA, and Bryan (Lise) Larson of Russell, PA with whom he resided. He is survived by his 13 grandchildren: Ben (Marisol) Legere, Ward, AR, Tabatha (Mike) Montes, Argyle, TX, Jacqi (Kyle) St. Clair, Argyle, TX, Addison (Amanda) Legere, Haslet, TX, Landon Jones, Oakland, CA, Jessica (Chad) Huffman, Argyle, TX, Kristen (Clay) Lucas, Warren, PA, Brandon (Des) Lord, Erie, PA, Tyler (Emily) Lord, Sheffield, PA, Keith (Deanna) Larson, Warren, PA, Deric Larson, Warren, PA, Caroline Larson, Columbia, MO, and James Larson, Lander, PA. He was also a great-grandfather to 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his foster sisters, Bonnie (Ron) Sherrard, Warren, PA and Joyce (Levi) Carlstrom, Parkton, MD, his sisters-in-law Gay Ann Scalise, Warren, PA, Patty O' Hanlon, High Point, NC, Debbie (Tom) Orn, Sapulpa, OK, Linda (Skip) Morrison, Warren, PA, Robbyn Porter, Brandon, FL, his brother-in-law, Jim Marquis, Warren, PA, and his stepmother, Marge (Couse) Larson, Youngsville, PA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Larson was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy, his sister-in-law Shirley, his brother-in-law, Jim O' Hanlon, his foster brother, Harold Thomas, and step-siblings. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Mel R. McGinnis, pastor of Kiantone Congregational Church will officiate. Friends will be received from 1-3 pm, for two hours prior to the service, in the funeral home on Tuesday. Masks must be worn while in the funeral home regardless of vaccination status.
