Obituary of Delvin S. Abbey

Delvin S. Abbey, 82, of 14 Everett Avenue, died Saturday February 26, 2022, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A lifelong Jamestown area resident, he was born June 1, 1939, the son of the late Stanley and Manetha Rhinehart-Tooze Abbey. He was a 1958 graduate of Falconer Central School and was a veteran of the US Navy serving aboard the USS Henrico out of San Diego. He was employed by Bigelow's Department Store, Millcraft Paper Company, Proto Tool Corporation, Blackstone, Cummins and lastly Post Journal as a proofreader. He was a published poet in both the United Kingdom and United States and was a member of the International Poets Society. Del loved his family and his many friends. He was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking, gardening, and collecting Christmas ornaments. His other interests include Astronomy, Archeology and History. Surviving is his wife Suzanne Illig Abbey, who he married July 2, 1966; two sons Charles (Jennifer) Abbey of Fort Mitchell, AL, and Daniel (Leyna) Abbey of Jamestown; five grandchildren Matthew, Mackenzie, Christopher, Nicholas, and Lily Abbey and a step grandson Andrew Como. He was preceded in death by two sons Bradley and Michael Abbey and a brother Wessley Abbey. Friends will be received from 3-5 pm Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. No funeral service will be observed. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
