Obituary of MaryAnn Collins

MaryAnn "Molly" Collins, 84, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday August 4, 2022 in St. John Nursing Home, Rochester, NY. She was born April 13, 1938, in Niagara Falls, NY, a daughter of the late John and Catherine Will Geddes. Following graduation in 1956 from Niagara Falls High School, she earned a degree in Education from SUNY Potsdam in 1960. She started her teaching career in Niagara Falls and moved to Jamestown in 1967 where she taught preschool for several years. She was then employed by Jamestown Public School System as a kindergarten teacher until her retirement in 2000. She loved working with small children and helping them build a strong foundation of learning. She was a member of Creche, American Association of University Women. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, woodworking, knitting and reading. In her retirement she enjoyed going out to lunch, to live theater with her friends, knitting, quilting, crafting, tending her flower gardens and watching the birds. She loved to sing and hum along with music She was a devoted wife and mother and she touched many with her kindness and her smile. Molly loved spending time with her family whether it was taking short trips, working on projects, or just sitting around the dinner table laughing. Surviving are two children Rebecca (Scott) Hess of Shortsville, NY and Christopher Collins of Ithaca; a granddaughter Emi Collins and a sister Catherine (Tom) Ashman of Youngstown, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband John Collins, whom she married December 23, 1960, and who died April 17, 1999, and two brothers James and John Geddes. Friends will be received from 2-5 pm Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
