Obituary of Irene D. Smith

Irene D. Smith, 88, of 715 Falconer St. formerly of 9 Hazel Ave. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 4:38 pm Tuesday, August 9, 2022, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident, she was born July 10, 1934, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late W. Harry and Jane Redmond Dahlin. Irene was a 1952 graduate of Jamestown High School and had been a member of the Zion Covenant Church. Before her retirement she was employed by the Jamestown Public School System as a Teachers Aide working at Love School Lincoln School and later at Persell School. In earlier years she had worked for the former Crescent Tool Company in Jamestown. Surviving is a daughter: Lynn (Jeff) Blasdell of Jamestown, NY, two grandsons: Mark (Kristy) Blasdell, Andrew Blasdell, four great grandchildren: Avery, Evan, Gavin, and Jeffrey Blasdell all of Jamestown. She is also survived by Richard "Dick" Smith of VA, whom she helped raise. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rexford M. Smith, whom she married October 10, 1953, and who died June 24, 2014, a brother, John Dahlin, and Robert Smith, whom she also helped raise. The funeral will be held at 3 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Laura Csellak, pastor of Lutheran will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Friday, two hours prior to the service in the funeral home.
