Obituary of Joyce J. Johnson

Joyce J. Johnson, 89, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 5:43 am Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born January 2, 1933, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Ellis William and Mary Smiley Jowett. Joyce was a 1950 graduate of Bemus Point High School where she was the Salutatorian of her class. Before her retirement, she was employed as a secretary for the Jamestown Welfare Department for many years. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was active in the altar and rosary society. Surviving are her six children: Dr. Daniel (Shawn) Johnson of West Seneca, NY, Jerry (Linda) Johnson of Canton, GA, Michael (Dawn) Johnson of Springfield, OH, Diane (Herb) Chado of Lakewood, CO, Patti (Paul) Rizzo, Kathy (Steve) Mahoney both of Jamestown, NY, sixteen grandchildren: Alexis, Adam, Aaron, and Aidan Johnson, Emily Vincent, Andrew and Jared Johnson, Garrett and Rachel Chado, Erika Marti, Jordan Hook, Hailee Junga, Jonathan and Justin Caprino, Nicole and Joseph Mahoney, seven great grandchildren and her brother, William (Eileen) Jowett of Bemus Point, NY. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Johnson whom she married September 25, 1954, and who died August 6, 2004. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St. Jamestown, NY 14701, or to a charity of one's choice.
