Obituary of Brenda L. Johnson

Brenda L. Johnson, 72, of Jamestown, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023 in the Elderwood at Amherst Care Facility in Amherst, NY. A native of Jamestown, she was born October 5, 1950, the daughter of Herbert E. and Betty Steck Johnson. She was a 1968 graduate of Jamestown High School. She received a B.A. in Elementary Education from SUNY Fredonia in Dec. of 1971; an MS in reading in 1975; and a CAS in School Administration in 1991. She also attended the University of Buffalo. Brenda began her employment as an elementary teacher at Panama Central School. In 1991, she became the elementary principal at Pine Valley. She concluded her career as elementary principal at Brocton Central in 2005. Following her retirement, Brenda became a CASA volunteer, working with numerous abused and neglected children in the Family Court system. She was a confirmed member of First Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Herman Kent 777 American legion Auxiliary, Celoron Moose Auxiliary, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Norden Women's Club, and Eastern Star. Education was Brenda's life and children were her love. She enjoyed winters in South Carolina and summers on Chautauqua Lake on the boat. Her greatest joy was her devoted Yorkie, Callie. Surviving are Callie and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. A private funeral service will be held. No visitation will be observed. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. It is suggested that memorials be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505; CASA of Chautauqua County, 2 Academy St., Mayville, NY 14757; Christ Church, 310 Prince Creek Pkwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576; or to a charity of choice.
