Obituary of Betty M. Soderstrom

Betty M. Soderstrom, 94, of Tanglewood Manor, formerly of 201 E. Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, and 349 Howard Avenue, was promoted to Glory, Monday February 6, 2023, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled nursing. She was born October 17, 1928, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Thure and Violet Sandquist Johnson. She was a graduate of Lakewood High School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Salvation Army as office manager for 27 years. She earlier had worked for Southwestern Central School as a cafeteria worker and forDahlstroms Manufacturing. A lifelong member of the Salvation Army , Betty was active in several ministries throughout the years. She played bass in the string band, alto in the band, was a member of Senior Citizens and Home League and was Young People's Sergeant Major. Surviving are two sons Bruce (Valerie) Soderstrom of Louisville, KY and Brian (Tabitha) Soderstrom of Lexington, SC; four grandchildren Lauren (Clint) Sherrell of Milton, KY, Jessie (Ryan) Manion of Louisville, KY, Daniel Soderstrom of Camden, SC and Alison Soderstrom of Columbia, SC; two great grandchildren Olivia and Waylon Sherrell and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carl Gustaf Soderstrom, whom she married June 21, 1952, and who died January 30, 1971; three sisters Lillian Allenson, Eleanor Bush and Alice Peterson and a sister in law Edith Bush. The funeral will be held at 2 pm Saturday at the Salvation Army, where friends will for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
