Obituary of Jean M. Abbott

Jean M. Abbott, 94, of 2123 Southwestern Dr., Lakewood and formerly 1527 Trask Rd., Jamestown, passed away Tuesday early morning, March 21, 2023 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was the widow of the late Phillip D. "Pep" Abbott whom she married Feb. 12, 1949 and who died July 6, 1998. Jean was born Nov. 17, 1928 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Harold W. and Allene Johnson Martindale, and was a graduate of Lakewood High School. She was employed initially by Art Metal followed by a number of years with the Post Journal. Jean retired as a secretary from the Southwestern High School guidance department. She was a past member of the Red Hat Society and the Vikings. Jean enjoyed reading, flowers, birds and playing cards, especially Rummy, and in earlier years, cross country skiing. She is survived by a daughter, Amy (Jay) Roehrig of Jamestown, and two sons: James Randall (Mary) Abbott of Jamestown and Martin Dale (Corrine) Abbott of Newport, TN. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Lynette (Marion) Bova, Jennifer (Chris) Collins, Kyrie (Sam) Pletts, Katrina Abbott, Jessica (Dan) Mollison, John (Amanda) Quattrone, and Alivia and Nathan Roehrig; six great-grandchildren: Caleb Pletts, Moya and Keegan Collins, Anastasia and Luke Mollison, and Rowan Abbott Quattrone; and a sister, Beverly Wilcox of Winter Park, FL. Along with her husband, Jean was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold W. Martindale, Jr. and Donn Martindale: and two sisters: Marilyn Sanders and Dorothy Johnston. A celebration of Jean's life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
