Obituary of Lucille C. Labart

Lucille C. Labart, 95, formerly of Ellicott Oaks, Jamestown and Fardink Rd., Ashville passed into the arms of Jesus in her sleep early Wednesday morning, April 19, 2023, while residing at Heritage Green, Greenhurst. She was born September 21, 1927, in Fredonia, NY, a daughter of the late Russell Lewis and Louise Hartwig Lewis. Lucille graduated from South Park High School, Buffalo NY in 1945. She attended Roberts Wesleyan College for one year, but she earned her Teacher's Certificate from the University of the State of New York in Buffalo in 1950. She taught in Niagara Falls, Orchard Park, and in West Seneca at Bellwood School for the majority of her career until retirement in 1982. Lucille cared for her mother-in-law in her home for 22 years from 1971-1993. She also volunteered at the Ashville Free library for a period of years. Lucille was devoted to her Savior and her family. She was a faithful prayer warrior, and her family credits many of their blessings to her prayers. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and previous churches, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School volunteer, and choir member. She enjoyed daily devotions, reading her Bible, missionary biographies and Christian novels. Lucille was generous, compassionate, and selfless. She lived by the Word of God and sought to encourage everyone she met. She was an inspiration to her family and friends. Surviving are her daughter and son: Deborah (Herbert) Hotchkiss and William Labart, both of Ashville, NY; 6 grandchildren: Herbert (Laura) Hotchkiss of Woodstock GA, Stephen (Erica) Hotchkiss of Greenville SC, Douglas (Molly) Hotchkiss of Sherman NY, Caroline (Shayne) Hotchkiss Saunders of Ashville NY, Thomas (Jessica) Labart of Kennedy NY, and Michael Labart of Frewsburg, NY; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Butler of Derby NY; and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Frederick Labart, whom she married on August 12, 1950, and who died on November 30, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her 2 brothers and their wives, Leonda (Lois) Lewis of TX, Robert (Delores) Lewis of Buffalo; a brother-in-law Eugene Butler of Derby; a nephew Richard Lewis of TX; and a niece JoAnn Lewis Diodato of VA. A private memorial service for the family will be held on Saturday, April 22, at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Al Detter officiating. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ashville. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua Christian Academy, 200 Hunt Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
