Obituary of Harry E. Zimmer

Harry E. Zimmer, 83, of 2123 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 9, 2023 in his home. A Jamestown native, he was born July 24, 1940, a son of the late Asa & Edna Zimmer and Marie Zimmer. Harry was a 1958 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the US Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961. Harry worked in telecommunications throughout his career, retiring as an installation supervisor for Verizon in Rutland, VT. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed raccoon hunting with friends in West Virginia and loved to be out fishing anywhere. It was always said that Harry was born with a fishing pole in his hands. He is survived by his wife, Patty Bussoletti Zimmer whom he married Oct. 19, 1974; daughter, Terri Lynn Best (Gary Card) of Ashville; a brother, Philip Zimmer (Mary Ann) of Jamestown and sister, Jeanne "Sis" Austin of Lakewood; grandson, Dalton Best (Katherine) and great grandchildren Norah Ann, Mable Jean, and Elaine Rose, all of Jamestown; nieces and nephew, Joanne Neureuther of Rolesville, NC, Jeanine Zimmer of Bemus Point, and David Zimmer also of Bemus Point; several cousins; as well as Harry's longtime good friends, Ted Orertly and Norman Cady. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Marie Zimmer and stepmother, Edna Zimmer; and brother-in-law, Richard Austin. The family wishes to thank all the caring people at Hospice for their wonderful care. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Oct. 14th in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Kibbe will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday.
