Obituary of Janet A. Tarneja

Janet A. Tarneja (nee Aird), 77, of Jamestown, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, October 20, 2023, at Heritage Village. She was born October 20, 1946, in Toronto, Canada, a daughter of the late Clifford and Myrtle (Hales) Aird. She married Ravinder Tarneja in December 1973, and they were married nearly 26 years. Although they were divorced, he always held a special place in her heart. Before her retirement, she was the owner and operator of Unique Fashions in Springville, NY. Janet struggled with dementia the last few years so she wasn't always quite herself, but she will be remembered for many things that always remained constant in her life. First and foremost, was her faith; she loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her only Lord and Savior when she was in her teens. While she fell away from Him for a time, trials in her life drew her back to Him. From that time until the end of her life she loved Him with all her heart and loved to read and study His Word, the Bible. She was often very guarded in letting people into her life, but if you were one of those people, you had an advocate for life. She was fiercely protective of those she loved and had an amazing heart for people; often you would find someone sharing their problems with her as she was an amazing listener. With only one home economics class, she discovered she loved sewing and would create amazing, customized bridal/bridesmaid dresses as well as prom dresses. Bringing a smile to the girl or woman wearing it was what fueled her passion. Additionally, she loved knitting and crocheting. It was not uncommon for her to create sweaters and blankets for those who were special to her and whom she cared for. Old movies were also a favorite of hers and playing chess. Surviving is her daughter Sheila (Darryl) McIntyre of Jamestown; her two sisters, Diane Metko and Debbie Button; two brothers, Brian Aird and Kevin Aird; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Lind Funeral Home. Friends and family will be received an hour prior to the service from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
