Obituary of Janice B. Streed

Janice B. Streed, 93, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 25, 2023 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was the widow of Allan H. Streed, whom she married Aug. 12, 1950 and who died Jan. 10, 2010. Janice was born in Jamestown April 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Pearl Ribbing and Mildred Fagerstrom Ribbing Flood and was a graduate of the former Celoron High School. A bookkeeper, she had been employed by Anderson Cleaners, Ruland & Bishop Accountants, Seidman & Seidman, and retired from Lake County Dodge. Janice was a member of New Hope Community Church and previously of both First Baptist Church and Lakewood Baptist Church. Through the years, she had served as a member and chairman of hospitality committees and as church treasurer for her churches. She had served hundreds of dinners to church family and loved church bible studies in their home. She and her late husband served as chairpersons of the social group, 'Young at Heart' while at Lakewood Baptist and First Baptist Church in Jamestown. Janice was very generous, both with her time and with her finances. She possessed a heart that always thought of those less fortunate and the ways in which to cheer them up and make their lives better. She had opened their home to missionaries and family members alike who needed a warm meal or a place to live. Janice loved gardening, flowers, crafts and knitting and had knitted and given away many blankets and baby sweaters. She also loved pedicures and looked forward to traveling with her husband and with friends. She was also very proud of her family tradition of making apple pies with bushels and bushels of apples over 63 years. Surviving are two sons: Rev. Gregory (Grace) Streed of Jamestown, and Darryl (Laura) Streed of Edgewater, FL; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Streed of Lakewood; six grandchildren: John Streed of Lakewood, Elizabeth Collins of Ohio, Sara (Jonathan) Bernstein of Pittsburgh, Kristina (David) Stainbrook of Erie, Katie (Isaiah) Swerdon of Ashville, NY, and Michael Streed of Jamestown; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband Allan, Janice was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Smith and a brother, Robert Ribbing. The family would like to thank the many caregivers and therapists at Heritage Green for their kindness and wonderful care. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29th at New Hope Community Church in Jamestown. Janice's son, Rev. Gregory Streed, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Hope Community Church, 80 City View Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
